An old grave

The drive from Red Bay to Blanc-Sablon is short, and there are towns and sights for a change! For instance, this is the oldest known grave in the Americas just off the highway at L'Anse-Amour.

Shipwreck

If you continue past the grave site to the end of the road, you can follow a trail down to the beach to see the remains of the HMS Raleigh.

Lighthouse

The trailhead is on the premises of this lighthouse which coincidentally is the tallest example in Newfoundland and Labrador. It's possible to see Newfoundland across the Strait of Belle Isle, and if you're lucky you'll see whales too.

Goodbye Blanc Sablon

Keep in mind that the ferry to Newfoundland runs on Newfoundland time (not Labrador time). We just made it, and that's why there are no photos of the border nor Blanc-Sablon... If you're not headed to Newfoundland, you can alternatively head back to Sept-Isles on the Relais-Nordik ferry (but reserve early and know that your car will be transported in a container for this one!).

Welcome to The Rock

And that's it. It's a relatively short ferry ride to the Rock. But keep in mind that this ferry puts you near the Northwest tip of the island. Would you believe that it's nearly another 1000km to St-John's!
